I love desserts! Have I told you I have a sweet tooth? I probably have. Whenever I’m dining, I never forget to make room for dessert. My favorite has always been cake. I do a little baking every once in a while but I have to tell you, it takes time. That’s why when I stumbled upon this mug cake recipe, it felt like an answered prayer. Just imagine sinking your fork (or spoon, whichever you prefer) into something sweet after just one minute. Yep, just one minute. And best of all, there’s no baking required, just your microwave. So what are you waiting for, grab a mug and let’s get started.

5 1-Minute Mug Cake Recipes To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

1. Funfetti Mug Cake

What you’ll need to make your funfetti mug cake:

  • 2 tablespoons (2oz/ 60g) unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons (50g/ 1¾ oz) self-rising flour ( to make SF flour add 2 tsp of baking powder to 150g/6oz/1 cup plain flour)
  • tiny pinch of kosher salt

Step 1

In a microwavable mug, place your butter and melt it in the microwave.

Step 2

Add your egg and beat it with a fork.

Step 3

Add the milk, vanilla, and sugar then mix.

Step 4

Now you’re ready to add the flour and salt. Continue mixing until the batter is smooth; after that you can fold in your sprinkles.

Step 5: Microwave

Put it in the microwave for about 50 seconds until it has risen. Be sure not to overcook since it dries out quickly.

Step 6

You can optionally top it with bubble gum buttercream frosting and sprinkles.

 

2. Chocolate Banana Mug Cake

What you’ll need to make your chocolate banana mug cake:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • ¼ cup (4 tbsp) peanut butter (or any nut butter)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetend cocoa powder

Step 1

In a large mug, mash your banana with fork.

Step 2

Add your nut butter and egg and mix.

Step 3

Now add the sugar and cocoa. Continue mixing until smooth.

Step 4: Microwave

Put in your microwave for 1 minute until it has risen and is firm. Be sure not to overcook since it dries out quickly.

Step 5

Top with sliced bananas.

TIP: Best eaten right away, so have your fork ready!

 

3. Red Velvet Mug Cake

What you’ll need to make your red velvet mug cake:

  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 4½ tbsp sugar
  • ⅛ tsp baking powder
  • 1½ tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 3 tbsp buttermilk (substitute sour cream or yogurt if not available)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp red food coloring

Step 1

In an over-sized mug, mix all your wet ingredients until smooth.

Step 2

Add in the dry ingredients and mix well.

Step 3: Microwave

Put it in your microwave for 50 seconds. Be sure not to overcook since it will become dense and rubbery.

Step 4

Let it cool then top with cream cheese frosting.

4. Apple Crumble Mug Cake

What you’ll need to make your apple crumble mug cake:

  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 heaping tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon applesauce
  • ½ tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ½ tablespoon milk
  • ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • crumble topping
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Step 1

Mix all your dry ingredients in a small mug.

Step 2

Now the wet ingredients: Mix in the apple sauce then your veg oil, milk and vanilla. Mix until wet and be careful not to over mix. You’ll notice that this batter is thicker than the others.

Step 3

For the crumble: In a separate bowl, mix 1 tbsp of butter, 2 tbsp of flour, 1 tbsp of brown sugar. Mix well until combined.

Step 4

Put the crumble on top of your batter.

Step 5: Microwave

Put it in your microwave for about 45 seconds under high setting. Be sure not to overcook since it dries out quickly.

Step 6:

Top with ice cream and drizzle with salted caramel sauce.

 

5. Rainbow Mug Cake

What you’ll need to make your rainbow mug cake:

  • ½ cup (100g) white sugar
  • 1 sticks (100g) butter, softened at room temperature
  • 2 eggs at room temperature, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cups (110g/ 4oz) All purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch salt
  • red, orange, yellow, green, blue, food colouring

Step 1

Using a hand whisk, cream the sugar and butter in a large bowl until fluffy in texture for about 3 minutes.

Step 2

Add one egg and mix well followed by the other one. It should like the picture above. Then mix in your vanilla extract.

Step 3

Add all your dry ingredients and mix well.

Step 4

Divide the batter evenly in 5 different bowls.

Step 5

Add a drop of food coloring per bowl and mix very gently.

TIP: Be sure not to over mix!

Step 6

Spoon the colors in the mug one at a time. Later it on top of each other to create a marbled effect.

Step 7: Microwave

Put in the microwave for 45 seconds. Be sure not to overcook since it dries out quickly.

Step 8

Tops with cream cheese frosting and add some sprinkles!
