Dog Shirts | DIY Dog Clothes

Dogs are said to be man's best friend, right? And we want our pal to be comfy (and fashionable) when out.  If you have a dog and you love to DIY, here's the perfect DIY pet project for you! We have already made some pretty dog sweaters and jackets for our dogs before. This time, I'm going to teach you on how to make a dog shirt from an upcycled  old t shirt for bigger dogs!

Here's a great way to recycle and upcycle thrift clothing and turn them into cute dog clothes. Take a look at this tutorial on how to upcycle a shirt into dog shirts! I bet you will make more than one!

Materials you'll need for this easy DIY dog shirt:

  • Old T-Shirt
  • Scissors or Rotary Cutter
  • Measuring Tape
  • Plate
  • Safety Pins

First, using a measuring tape, measure your dog from the start of his neck onto where his tail starts.

 Step 2

If you don't have a measuring tape, we lay the shirt on the dog's back and fold it to where you want the shirt to end. Leave the shirt folded so you would know where to cut.

Step 3

Lay the shirt on a flat surface with the logo you want to show facing up still folded if you used that method earlier. If you used a measuring tape, measure from the neck of the shirt down and cut horizontally at that mark across the entire shirt.

Step 4

Next we are going to make the body of the dog shirt. Grab a plate and place it over the shirt covering half the sleeve. Start from the bottom and just follow and cut along the plate all the way through the sleeve.

Step 5

To make sure that both ends are even, fold the shirt over to match the other side and cut the other side exactly the way you just did. This way it would be the same measurements on both sides.

Step 6

This next step is optional depending on your dog's arms. If your doggie has short arms, cut the sleeves off following the hem of the sleeves. If your dog is larger (like German Shepherd), you may want to keep the sleeves on.

Step 7

To make it more comfy for your dog's tummy, turn the shirt over, grab the top half of the shirt that is facing up and fold to where the beginning of the armpit should be. Cut along the top part of the shirt.  This should leave you with a cropped top of the top half of the shirt and the bottom should still be long.

Step 8

If you want, you can sew this part of the shirt together so it stays in place or you can use safety pins. Slip the shirt on the dog with the logo facing up on their back.  Grab the ends of the shirt from underneath their arms and carefully safety pin those ends together. Be careful not to hurt your dog.

And we're done!

I absolutely think that these guys are looking fabulous! What are you waiting for? It's about time you dress your dogs in a fashionable DIY dog shirt!
