DIY Jetpack Materials:
- Two empty 2-liter bottles
- 1 can of silver spray paint
- Hot glue
- Sturdy piece of cardboard
- 16 inches of 1-inch elastic
- Elastic strap with buckle
- Stapler
- Two pieces of orange felt
- Two pieces of red felt
- NASA logo print-out
DIY Jetpack Instructions:
Step 1: Cut your corners.

Begin with a square piece of cardboard. Use an X-Acto knife to cut slits into all four corners, as shown in the image above.
Step 2: Add elastic straps.

Cut your elastic into two 8″ strips. Loop it through the cut-outs and staple to the cardboard, about 2 inches from the edge. Add a buckle in the center
Step 3: Paint and glue your water bottles.

Coat each of the water bottles in silver spray paint. After they've dried (about 30 minutes), glue them together. Try to line them up as evenly as possible.
Step 4: Cut out your flames.

Fold your orange felt in half, then cut out a small flame shape. Repeat with your second piece of orange felt.
Step 5: Assemble your flames.

Cut a slightly larger flame into your red felt, then glue to the smaller orange flame. Repeat with your second pieces.
Step 6: Attach your jetpack.

Apply a generous amount of hot glue to your cardboard, then attach to your water bottles. Press firmly while the glue dries.
Step 7: Attach your flames.

Use hot glue to attach your flames to your jet pack. Hold down firmly until the glue is completely dry.
Step 8: Time for lift-off!

Add your NASA decals, then buckle up and enjoy your new jetpack!
