TV Wall Frame | How To Make Your Own in 6 Quick Steps
TV Wall Frame Tools and Materials:
- Trim pieces
- 1 1×1 piece of lumber
- Wood glue
- Small finishing nails
- 4 Framing clamps
- Sander
- Wood finish of your choice
Step 1: Measure Your TV
Start your TV wall frame project by measuring your TV. Particularly, you'll have to get the measurements of the actual picture screen, not the entire box itself.
Make sure to capture the inside bezels from left to right and from top to bottom and to write them down. These measurements are crucial in making the frame of the actual picture or the “inside” of the TV wall frame.
Your outside measurements, on the other hand, will depend mostly on the kind of wood you'll be using and on how thick you want it to be.
Step 2: Trim Your Wood
When you're done with the measurements of your TV wall frame and you've written them down, you can move on to trimming the wood.
You'll have to cut all the pieces of your frame at 45-degree angles. This should give you a square that's perfect for the four corners of your screen once you're done with the project.
Step 3: Line Your TV Wall Frame Pieces Up
With all your pieces ready, line everything up to make sure that they form a perfect square. Use your picture frame clamp and check to see that the pieces all form 90-degree angles when put together.
If they don't, then go back to your saw and make the adjustments as necessary.

Step 4: Put Everything Together
Now that your pieces fit perfectly together, it's time to build your TV wall frame. Use your brush to apply glue on the corners of the frame before clamping them together.
You can be as liberal as you want to be with the glue. Just make sure to use a paper towel to wipe any excess off later.
When the glue sets after a few hours, grab your hammer to insert a small finish nail on the corners of the frame. Finally, apply some wood filler on any gaps to make them disappear.
Your frame should now be whole. Try putting it up in front of your TV to make sure it doesn't block any portion of the picture once you attach it to your TV.
Step 5: Install the Backer Board to Your TV Wall Frame
Now, attach your one-inch piece of wood to the back of your frame. This wood will act as your backer board that will hold the frame in place over the television.
Have someone hold the frame in front of the TV so you can mark exactly where to position your backer board and the Velcro tapes you'll use to attach it. When you're done making measurements, glue the piece of wood to the back of the frame and let it dry.
Now, place Velcro on the top of the TV and on your backer board.
Finish this step by sanding your frame before painting or staining it with the finish you want.
Step 6: Drill a Hole
You're mostly finished! However, with the majority of modern televisions having infrared sensors, your TV wall frame might block the infrared signals sent by your remote control to your TV.
To avoid this, just look for the hole on your TV. Often, it's around the lower left or right corner.
Mark the spot on your TV wall frame and drill a small hole. This should allow the remote control to successfully communicate with the TV.
