Craft a Crescent Moon Macrame Dream Catcher Using Any Type of Thread!

What You Will Be Needing:

  • A metal or a wooden ring
  • Yarn or any thick thread
  • Jute or paper cord
  • Trimmings of your choice (feathers, ribbons, etc.)
  • A pair of scissors

Step 1: Wrap Thread Around Your Ring

The first step in this macrame dream catcher tutorial is to grab your ring and wrap your yarn or your thick thread around it.

Here are the steps in detail:

  • Using your yarn, make a knot on your metal or wooden ring.
  • When the knot is secure, wrap the yarn around the ring.
  • Ensure that each wrap is tight enough that your ring will not peek through.
  • Continue wrapping tightly until you reach a little past halfway through the circumference of the ring.

Step 2: Secure Knot and Attach Jute

When you have wrapped the yarn along your ring, you have to secure it with a double knot. Snip the excess string at the ends and attach your jute or your paper cord.

Here are the steps in detail:

  • After wrapping past the halfway mark, stop and secure the yarn with a double knot.
  • Grab your scissors and cut off any excess yarn from both ends.
  • Grab your jute or your paper cord and attach it to your ring where your yarn ends.
  • Make sure to knot your jute to the ring tightly.

Step 3: Loop Over, Pull Over

Now comes the fun part. After you have secured your jute on the area where your yarn ends, you're going to begin the first step of creating your macrame pattern.

Here are the steps in detail:

  • Position the ring so that the yarn side is to your right.
  • Grab your jute and loop it over to the right side of your ring where it's wrapped with yarn.
  • Next, pull it over the loop that you've just created.
  • With the jute you've just pulled through the loop, loop it over the ring again.
  • Then pull through the new loop that you've created the second time around.
  • Repeat the process of looping and pulling over until you reach the end of the yarn.

Step 4: Flip and Repeat

So now you have the base of your crescent moon-style macrame dream catcher! It is time to create the rest of the pattern.

You are essentially repeating the process of looping and pulling back and forth through your ring.

Here are the steps in detail:

  • Once you've reached the end of the yarn, flip your ring over.
  • Loop over your jute along the jute base that you have created during the previous step above.
  • Pull it through just like what you did previously.
  • Repeat the looping and pulling process until you reach the end of the string base.
  • Flip your ring again and repeat the same process.
  • Keep repeating until you have a crescent moon shape.
  • Secure the end with a double knot

Step 5: Time for the Trimmings!

You should be smiling at what you've just created at this point! To make your macrame dream catcher even better, let's attach some trimmings!

You can be as creative as you want at this point. Grab whatever trimmings you have and attach them at the bottom of your crescent moon macrame.

Here are the steps in detail:

  • Get your trimming and measure out how long you want it to hang from the bottom of your ring.
  • When you're happy with the length, double it in length and cut with your scissors.
  • While remaining folded, loop it through the bottom of your ring and pull tightly.
  • Keep repeating the process until you are happy with the thickness of the fringe that you've just created.
  • You can attach some feathers to your trimmings if you want to add a more boho feel to your macrame dream catcher
  • Check every knot on your macrame dream catcher and see if they are tight enough.
  • Tighten loose knots as needed.

Step 6: Display Your Macrame Dream Catcher!

After tightening any loose knots, pick a spot against a wall in any room of yours. Clean the area with alcohol or soap and water and attach a wall hook.

For wall hooks, you don't have to drill a nail through because your macrame dream catcher is extremely light. You can use wall hooks with adhesives on their backs instead.

Hang your DIY macrame dream catcher and let is spruce up your room with its boho-chic vibe and topnotch craftsmanship!
