Update your Kitchen Cabinets
The Home Depot provides a step-by-step tutorial showing you how you can update your kitchen cabinets. I'll share some of the information below then you can check out their blog for the full tutorial. All the equipments and tools needed for this project are also sold at Home Depot.
MATERIALS
- Painter’s Tape
- Vinyl Gloves, Mask, Safety Glasses
- Degreaser
- Rags
- Canvas Drop Cloth
- Tack Cloth
- Scrap Wood (to prop doors on when painting)
- BEHR Semi-Gloss Latex Paint/Primer (Platinum)
- Paintbrush & Roller Kit
TOOLS
- Screwdriver (or Cordless Drill)
- Orbital Sander with Fine Grit Paper
- Pencil
- Fine & Very Fine Grit Sanding Block
- Shop Vac
- Compressed Air (optional)
STEP 1: PREPARE YOUR WORK AREA
This includes gathering all the necessary materials needed for this project. Then use your drill or screwdriver to remove the existing hardware from the doors and drawer fronts. If you plan on reusing your hardware, place it in a plastic bag inside the corresponding cabinet to avoid confusing during re installation.
STEP 2: CLEAN THE CABINETS
Home Depot suggest cleaning your cabinets after removing them. Wipe each one with soap and water and use a de-greaser on the ones that might need it. Once the cabinets are clean you'll need to sand them down, then wipe with a cloth to create a smooth clean surface for the primer and paint.
