Design Your Own Shirt | Stenciled T-Shirt in 6 Easy Steps

A nice way to customize your t-shirt is by painting it. Not always easy if you don’t have an artist’s soul! But there is an easy way to do it – did you know you can use freezer paper as a stencil? It’s very simple, you only need a few supplies and this shirt design tutorial!

What You’ll Need:

  • freezer paper
  • foam brush
  • fabric paint
  • cutter
  • iron

How To Make A Stenciled T-Shirt

Step 1: Draw Your Design

Draw your design on the freezer paper, on the side without plastic wrap. You can also print your design directly on the freezer paper.

Step 2: Cut

Carefully cut your drawn design out of the freezer paper.

Step 3: Position

Position your stencil on the t-shirt, be sure the side with the plastic wrap is against the fabric. Iron your stencil to make it stick to the t-shirt.

Step 4: Slip A Piece Of Cardboard

Slip on a piece of cardboard | How To Design Your Own Shirt

Slip a piece of cardboard or newspaper into your shirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through the back of your t-shirt.

 

Step 5: Paint

With a foam brush start painting your t-shirt. Go slowly and use little paint at a time.

 

Step 6: Remove

When the paint is dry, carefully remove the stencil. Just pull it gently, it can be removed easily.
