How To Make A DIY Beach Cover Up In 6 Easy Steps

The pool and beach are the perfect spots to suit up on a hot summer day, however, sometimes it takes more than just a skimpy bikini to turn heads. A breezy cover up can really cost a pretty penny, but if you're willing to practice your creativity, you'll be styling at the beach in no time with this fuss-free DIY beach cover up. So get ready to start crafting!

What You’ll Need:

  • T-shirt
  • scissors
  • ruler
  • chalk
  • square cut out – 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ (can depend on your preference)

How To Make A DIY Beach Cover Up:

Step 1: Start Your Triangle

Lay your shirt back side up on your working table. Measure about 9″ from the top of your shirt to start your triangle with the use of your square cut out. Make sure the top of your triangle is straight down the middle of your shirt.

Step 2: Draw Your Perfect Square

Using your square cut out, sketch out your square right in the middle, making a diamond shape.

Step 3: Draw Oblique Lines

Trace oblique lines out from your square about 1″ apart. You can eyeball it or measure it for a precise result.

Step 4: Cut Your Lines

You can start anywhere to cut your lines all the way up to your square. Make sure not to cut through the bottom seam of your shirt for a sturdier cover up.

Step 5: Cut Out The 4 Triangular Shape

Cut the top, bottom, left, and right triangular shapes leftover after making your lines. Make sure not to cut the collar of your shirt.

Step 6: Stretch It

Stretch the shirt so that the design will come out and your cover up is ready! It looks like a simple shirt from the front with a wonderful surprise at the back.
