Looking for the Best Natural Tanning Oil Recipe? Here’s a Really Easy One!
Here’s the List of Stuff You Will Need:
- Fifteen grams of cocoa butter
- Extra virgin olive oil, also weighing fifteen grams
- Coconut oil that bears the same weight as other ingredients above
- A clean glass container, preferably a glass jar with a lid
- Small spoon or spatula
- Saucepan with water
- Towel
Step 1: Place All Your Tanning Oil Ingredients in Pot
You might think that we will be mixing all your tanning oil ingredients at this point, but not quite! Open your container and put your cocoa butter in.
Then, spoon in your coconut oil on top and flatten it above using your spoon. Note that we’re not mixing it at this point. We are just pressing it down inside your container.
After this, you’re going to add your olive oil and let is reach the bottom of your jar carefully, making sure that you are not letting the oil overflow from your container.
You can pour the olive oil in by batches. Let the first batch reach the bottom of your container first and let it occupy the little nooks and crannies of your jar.
At this point, you can move your jar around to let the oil seep through the available space. Feel free to also use your spoon to push down your solid coconut oil and cocoa butter at the bottom of the jar, allowing more space at the top for your olive oil.
Pour in the remainder of your olive oil and close your container properly when you’ve adjusted the space.

Step 2: Time for a Bath!
Now it’s time for a bath–a hot water bath, we mean. Get your saucepan or any cooking pot that you have that is not big.
Fill it halfway with water and place your pan over your stove and turn it on medium heat. Let the water reach a little before boiling temperature and turn off your stove.
Grab your towel and fold it in half or more. Place it in your pan with hot water carefully. Go ahead and use a pair of tongs for this one since you don’t want to burn your hands!
Put your glass jar with your tanning oil ingredients on top of your folded towel. The folded towel is basically serving as a platform where you can place your jar safely inside the pan and perform a hot water bath without submerging the whole jar completely.
We don’t want your tanning oil jar to reach the bottom of your pan because it might be too hot and this might cause your container to break. Don’t put all of your hard work to waste!
Hold the jar on top of the towel and keep it there until everything inside is completely melted. Move the jar around in circular motions to make sure that the oils inside are melting together and to even out the heat around the jar.
For added safety, use a pair of heat-resistant gloves to hold your jar in the hot water bath. You might not have heat-resistance gloves at your home at this time.
If this is the case, you can just opt to use a pair of tongs to hold your jar. However, you have to make sure that you have a good grip on your jar to avoid it falling off your towel and completely submerging and reaching the bottom of your hot water bath.
Step 3: Let It Cool Completely
When you’ve seen that all the oils are completely melted, remove from the hot water bath and set aside your jar for 48 hours, letting all your ingredients solidify inside.
After 48 hours, you have your DIY tanning oil ready to use!
