A ring light is an incredible creative tool — yet most good ones retail around $200. So, what do I do when I can't bear the cost of the real thing? I get resourceful, creative, and make one!
Ring Light To Glam Up Your Next Selfie Game At $25
I love a well-lit photograph! Do you still remember having your class photos taken when you were in high school? I'm sure your photographer had a beautiful studio set up to take all of those perfectly lit pictures you gave out to your friends. I'm a novice when it comes to snapping pictures, and I've always wondered how those amazing YouTubers get such flawless, shadow-less light for their Instagram pics. Well, the perfect lighting does the trick. So let's get creative and learn how to make a DIY ring light to take perfect selfies!
What You'll Need:
- 12″ wire wreath
- 18 ft. white rope lights
- zip ties
- scissors
- extension cords
- aluminum foil (optional)
- hot glue gun (optional)
How To Make A DIY Ring Light
Step 1: Unplug

Remove the white rope lights plug and take the other end to the second ring of your wire wreath. Slightly hold it in the place closest to the center of the wire wreath.
Step 2: Coil The Rope Light

Begin coiling your rope lights from the first ring. If you are having some difficulty keeping your rope light in place as you wind it, you can secure it with a zip tie to hold it in place. Then, secure a zip tie on each section all the way to the first ring. From there, just move to the next ring and repeat the process until you reach the end of the rope.
Step 3: Clean It Up
Cut all the excess ends of the zip ties and make sure to be careful because zip ties have pretty sharp edges.
Step 4: Cover It Up

Flip the right light over to where the wire wreath is showing. Cut or tear aluminum foil to fit around the ring light. Use a hot glue gun to stick the foil to your ring light. Once you're done, reattach the white rope light's extra cord with the plug and place your ring light where you want it to be and get ready to take your selfie.
Step 5: Work Those Selfies!

Plug in your rope light and voila, you're ready to take some killer selfies!
