This handmade holiday gift is perfect for DIYers on a budget – and all you need is an old sweater plus a needle and thread. Simply turn your sweater inside out, trace your hand onto the fabric, then cut and sew the edges. When you've finished sewing, turn the mitten inside out and try it on for size. What you'll need:
- An old sweater
- Felt-tip marker
- Crochet thread and needle
How to make your own mittens:
Step 1: Turn an old sweater inside out.
Any sweater will work! Just make sure it's big enough to make two mittens.
Step 2: Trace your left hand onto the sweater.
Tip: Make sure you leave enough fabric for your right mitten!
Step 3: Cut out the tracing.
Step 4: Use crochet thread to sew the mitten.
Begin with a back stitch, then sew around the mitten, about 1/4 inch from the edge.
Step 5: Turn mitten inside out.
Repeat these steps to make a mitten for your right hand, then you're done! Enjoy your DIY stocking stuffer!
