5 Easy Steps Homemade Balloon Bowl For Your Kids To Try This Weekend

DIY Balloon Bowl You Can Actually Make from Scratch

What You Need

• Balloons
• Confetti or sheets of recycled paper
• Safety scissors
• Glue/Mod Podge
• Paintbrush
• Pie pan or similar container
• Pin

Step 1: Prep the Confetti

This first step is the fun and easiest part of the project because all you need to do is to cut little strips of paper with your kids. Cut as much as you can—the more the merrier, right? They don't have to be uniform in size.

On that note, do you remember how as a kid, you used to cut paper only for the fun of it? I do too, and I'm pretty sure we all have kids who also love to do just that.

There was this one time I was super busy and my hands were hurting from all the cutting, so I decided to get pre-made confettis online. Plus I really wanted shaped ones for a change. You can get them here if you want to skip the scissors. No judgment!

Step 2: Make the First Layer of the Balloon Ball

Now, blow up a balloon to about regular size, and not so stretched out that it can easily pop. Next, set it up in a pie pan or a similar container to keep it from wobbling all over the place.

Keep the round part without the knot facing your direction, then spread glue on the top half of the balloon using a paintbrush. You might also want to try this craft if you have lots of glue to spare.

Pour glue into a bowl or plate, then dip the balloon, tilting it from side to side for even coverage. Sprinkle confetti on top of the glued area, or you may also want to try dipping the balloon into the container of confetti.

Pro Tip: Based on my experience, Mod Podge is way better than regular glue for this. It dries much sturdier, which you definitely want if you want the bowl to actually hold anything. You can grab some here:

Finally, let it dry for the next layer.

Step 3: Add More Layers

Once the first layer has dried, add more layers of glue and confetti. Doing so will create a sturdier bowl. Here's a tip: If you want the bowl to have a flat bottom, press it down on a flat surface lightly.

Step 4: Pop the Balloon

Here comes the fun finale! You are going to pop the balloon ball, and this is what the pin is for. Poof! The balloon will go, so cover those ears. You'll have an amazing work of art you made on your own.

Step 5: Trim the Edges

It's up to you to trim the edges around the bowl if you want a clean finish. Personally, I like it with the rough edges. It gives it personality or a more whimsical look.

You can also make more so you can get artistic with it. In fact, you can do a glitter balloon bowl or a button balloon bowl, and even edible chocolate bowls.
