Pool cover is needed in the summer too, its not just for winter. This summer is gearing up to be a scorcher so chances are you'll be using the pool ALOT. Swimming pools require a bit of maintenance and when left uncovered leaves, debris and all kinds of insects can get it. That's why you need a pool cover and today we'll show you how to make one.
Make Your own Pool Cover
There are actually benefits to covering your pool; the cover helps to block UV light which protects can damage the chlorine in the water. Thanks to Instructables you can learn to make your very own pool cover.
Tools Needed
- A hack saw
- Drill with a 5/32″ drill bit
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Marker
Fittings are all 1/2″ size:
- 2 End caps
- adapter from slip coupling to male threads
- end cap with threads inside it
- a couple of 90 degree elbows
- slip coupling to female threads (for connecting the handle)
- sand paper
- spray paint (to block UV light from damaging the PVC pipe)
- PVC Primer and glue
- 8 or more #8 x 3/4″ Pan head Phillips Zinc (or Stainless) Self-Drilling Screws (some people call them self-tapping)
Step 1-Measure Your Pipe Length
Step 2-Join PVC Together With Glue
Step 3-Install an End Cap on One End and a Threaded Adapter on the Other
Step 4-Make Your Clips to Attach the Pipe to the Solar Cover
Step 5- Paint the Clips to Prevent UV Damage From the Sun
Step 6-Drill Holes for the Screws in the Clips
Step 7-Attach the Clips
Step 8-Roll It Up!
