CRAFT NEWS – Lego Searches for more Eco Friendly Brick
As a crafter, I have to admit that I started with legos from a young age, and still enjoy dabbling in them now that I'm “all grown up.” That's why I'm excited to see that Legos are working towards a greener footprint, and are looking for a way to produce more sustainable lego bricks.
Lego's business model is already working for them. They're in great shape and don't need to do this improvement, financially speaking. But they want to. Why? Because they care about the earth, and they care about their customer (who also cares about the earth).
So Lego is on a journey to find a way to make lego bricks out of recycled resources to decrease their carbon footprint. Their goal is to make sure the legos still look exactly the same. So the customer won't ever notice the difference. The difference is they'll be leaving the world a greener place. Isn't that thoughtful?! They have just started research, we may not see the change until 15 more years:
It is expected to be a lengthy process, going to 2030, because none of today’s alternatives to plastics, such as those made from raw materials derived from plants, meet the company’s requirements for giving Lego bricks a consistent look and feel, said Tim Guy Brooks, the company’s senior director of environmental sustainability, in an interview.
