DIY Party Drink: How to Make a Self-Freezing Slushie
Impress your friends with this fun party drink! With this fast and fun DIY, you can turn a boring bottle of soda into a tasty slushie in seconds.
Stick a couple of bottles in the freezer a few hours before your party, and turn them into slushies when your guests arrive! Best of all, this trick works on any soda, so you can make a ton of options for all of your party guests. Cheers!
What you’ll need for your party drink:
- 500mL bottle of soda, unopened
- Drinking glass
- Ice cube
How to make your party drink:
Step 1. Start with a 500mL bottle of soda.
We used Coca-Cola, but feel free to use any soda of your choice!
Step 2. Shake the bottle for 20 seconds, then stick it in the freezer for 3 hours.
Step 3. Carefully twist the cap to release air pressure from the bottle.
Step 4. Tighten the cap, then shake again for a few seconds.
Step 5. You’ll begin to see bubbles building up inside the bottle.

Step 6. Remove the cap, then pour the soda into a drinking glass.
Step 7. Drop an ice cube into the soda.
Step 8. Watch as the soda freezes instantly!
Step 9. Optional: Stick your glass in the freezer ahead of time, then pour soda into your chilled glass.
Step 10. Watch as the soda instantly freezes without an ice cube!
