DIY Roses out of Spoons | Upcycling Ideas

Making craft projects with repurposed items is just so fun. Not only does it test your creativity but it also lets your imagination run wild. I've recently discovered plastic spoon crafts and oh boy, it's fun. It opened my eyes to such great DIY decor you can make on a budget. The first DIY project I wanted to try was plastic roses. It's not as complicated as you think. Once you're done, you can make a DIY necklace or even use it as a table centerpiece. The possibilities are just endless!

What you'll need to make DIY Roses

  • plastic spoons
  • candle
  • pliers

Let the upcycling begin!

Step 1

Hold your plastic spoon upside-down above your lighted candle. You'll need to make two of these since this will be the middle of your fake rose.

TIP: Don't hold the spoon too close to the flame to avoid getting black marks on it. Also, don't keep it on the flame for too long since it may burn a hole through it.

Step 2

Once the spoon is soft enough, squeeze the edges to make a cone shape. Be careful not to press on it for too long to avoid getting burned. Repeat this with your second spoon.

Step 3

Hold the neck of the spoon near the flame until it's soft enough to twist around. Continue twisting it until the handle comes off. Do the same for your other spoon.

Step 4

Take your two spoon heads and hold the ends together near the flame. You'd want to melt them together to bind them.

Step 5

Now that you have the center, time to make the rest of the petals. Take another spoon and this time put it near the flame right-side up. Let it naturally melt a bit around the edges. Repeat this until you think you've made enough.

Step 6

Using your pliers, cut the handles of your plastic spoons. Be careful, it may give a little pop that will result to the handles flying around.

Step 7

Time to assemble your plastic rose. Hold your cut plastic spoon head near the flame until it's slightly melted and attach it to the one we made earlier (the center). Repeat the process until you've gone around it and you're satisfied with how your rose looks like.

And you're done!

Can you believe you made such a beautiful rose with just plastic spoons? You can make a couple and attach some stems to make a DIY centerpiece or you can add a chain and make it a DIY necklace. The choice is up to you.

In case you would want it in different colors, you can alternatively use colored plastic spoons or just spray some paint on it. Amazing right?!
