Make Bedroom String Lights With Origami Paper Lanterns

It's always sad to see folks pulling down their Christmas lights after the holidays have come and gone. I get attached to the cheery, twinkly lights adorning door fronts and lawns around the neighborhood. When they're packed away, the world loses a little sparkle and a humdrum quotidian pace settles back over the city.

To preserve a little Christmas spirit for the rest of the year, I like to bring the magic of string lights into my bedroom. I found this lovely idea for paper cube string lights on Wit & Whistle, which shows you how to cover LED string lights with paper origami lanterns. The paper lanterns give the lights a pretty muted effect, so the string lights can be draped around a headboard without blinding you or guests!

Materials

All you need is a string of 20 lights and 20 square pieces of paper (Wit & Whistle used 8.5″ x 8.5″.) Tip: Use LED lights if you are worried about potential fire hazards.

Step 1

Fold your 20 square pieces of paper into lanterns following these steps:

Step 2

Now poke each light into a paper cube. No glue necessary!

Step 3

Hang wherever you want and enjoy! They make great headboard decorations.
