As Halloween fast approaches and you scramble to figure out who–or what–to be this year, consider this easy, elegant DIY Poison Ivy costume. Uma Thurman wore it well in the 1997 blockbuster Batman & Robin, and so can you!

DIY Poison Ivy Costume In 5 Easy Steps

Poison Ivy

The DIY Poison Ivy Costume is especially ideal for all of you ladies blessed with a green thumb or just love everything plant- and nature-related. If you recall, Poison Ivy began as Dr. Pamela Isley, a passionate botanist — not a supervillain.

This in-depth how-to takes you step by step through the creation process. Check your progress against the pictures I've included for each step to make sure you're on the right track. Now, let's get started!

Things You'll Need to Make this Poison Ivy Costume:

  • black corset
  • black underwear or short shorts
  • green opera gloves
  • green tights
  • artificial ivy leaves
  • glue gun
  • glue stick
  • black shoes
  • scissors
  • socks
  • binder
  • double-sided tape

Step 1: Cut the Leaves

Cut every leaf off from your artificial ivy vine.

Step 2: Start ‘Planting' the Leaves on Your Corset

Use your glue gun to affix the leaves on your Poison Ivy corset. Start with the front of the corset, and remember: arrange your leaves in the way you want to appear before gluing them on. Put the glue on the corset, not the leaves — they may melt!

Keep the leaves pointing upward on the top, and then have them face downwards towards the bottom. Follow this technique until the entire corset is covered in leaves.

Step 3: Glue Leaves to Your Skivvies

Place your underwear or shorts on a binder to make the gluing process easier.

Start by gluing leaves on the lining near your thighs.

Replicate the technique you used for the corset and cover the entire bottom.

Keep gluing leaves until absolutely everything is covered up!

Step 4: Making the ‘Face Leaves'

Cut eyebrow-shaped pieces out of cardboard.

Stick it to the leaves.

Cut the lower portion of the leaves. Follow the arch of the eyebrow-shaped cardboard.

Now you've got your face leaves.

Step 5: The Final Touches

Stick the face leaves above your brows using double-stick adhesive tape.

Now it's time to rub your sassy poison off on the world!
